Spanish MPs call on government for more support to Palestinians
Palestine-Israel-Spain, Politics, 7/17/2000

A Spanish parliamentary group affiliated with the united left alliance called on the Spanish government Saturday to extend more support for the Palestinian government in its claims over Jerusalem.

In a message to the government, the MPS said the Spanish government should sign deals with the Palestinians in east Jerusalem.

The group, the fourth strongest in the parliament, said such deals "will be a balanced and harmonized move with the Spanish policy which is based on backing a fair peace in the Middle East." It said although Spain signed deals with Israel in Jerusalem, it did not recognize the sacred city as the capital of Israel. The government, it added, should also sign deals with the Palestinians in east Jerusalem, a city which Israel has annexed in 1967.
