Campaign for Belgian local elections goes through Tangiers
Morocco, Politics, 7/15/2000
Tangiers is poised to become an essential stop over for next October's local elections in Belgium as a large number of Moroccan-born electors are presently spending their summer holidays in this Moroccan northern city.
Belgian Francophone Liberal Party has chosen to celebrate Belgium's national day in Tangiers. Its president, together with candidates to local elections, will be undertaking "a work visit meant to promote and deepen North-south dialogue."
For the party's leader and European MP, Daniel Ducarme, this year's national day is "particular" as it will be an opportunity to meet Moroccan-born Belgians outside Belgium as a large number of voters hold the two nationalities are spending their summer holidays at home.
The party delegation also projects to hold a series of meetings with local authorities, political parties, administration officials and opinion-makers.
