Palestinian official: Camp David almost failed due to a US proposal
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 7/15/2000
An official Palestinian assured that the negotiations in Camp David were about to fail yesterday because of a U.S paper that was represented to the Palestinian and to the Israeli sides, saying that the paper was adopting Israel's stances toward most cases of the final solution.
It said that the Palestinian side rejected the paper that was represented by the U.S side concerning all issues of the final solution especially Jerusalem, the refugees and the borders.
He added that the Palestinian delegation threatened to boycott the negotiations in protest against this paper, referring that the U.S President Bill Clinton interfered and asked the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat to consider this paper as if it did not exist, saying that President Bill Clinton met separately with Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak in an attempt to achieve progress in the negotiations, yet he assured that there no progress was achieved in the negotiations.
