Seaside tourism yields 50% of tourism returns in Morocco
Morocco-Iraq, Economics, 7/14/2000

Over 50% of Morocco's annual tourism returns are yielded by seaside tourism, said the tourism ministry.

During the question-time at the house of representatives, Secretary of state for environment, Ahmed Iraqi, who spoke on behalf of the tourism minister, said the tourism department is aware that 80% of European tourists are attracted by Moroccan sea resorts. The department is projecting to increase by at least 50% the accommodation capacity of hotels in the Moroccan Atlantic and Mediterranean sea resorts and the World Bank has granted Morocco a two million dollar loan to conduct a feasibility study on major seaside resorts.

King Mohammed VI has also issued instructions to earmark $ 50 million from the Hassan II Solidarity Fund to endow three sea resorts with a 40,000 bed capacity.
