Egypt demands two seats in UNSC for Africa
Egypt, Politics, 7/13/2000
Egypt's Permanent Delegate to the UN, Ambassador Ahmed Abul Gheit said the expansion of the membership of Security Council will top the agenda of the UN General Assembly deliberations by the Heads of states and governments in the Millennium Summit, next September.
Abul Gheit said that the discussions will not be limited to the request by some countries to join the council, but they will also deal with the advantages of the permanent members and reconsideration of the veto right.
Egypt's stance as outlined by Abul Gheit is based on calling upon two seats for Africa that represents more than quarter of the member-states of the United Nations.
