Belgian mothers demonstrate over displacement of their children by Moroccan husbands
Morocco, Culture, 7/13/2000
A group of Belgian mothers Tuesday demonstrated in front of the Moroccan embassy in Brussels to claim their right to custody and visit of their children who were displaced by their former Moroccan husbands.
The mothers' move comes after the Belgian government sent on July 3 a letter to the Moroccan government deploring the failure of the 13th meeting of the Moroccan-Belgian commission entrusted with that question.
Delegates of the mothers, who are members of an association called "SOS parental abductions," were received by the embassy's officials who reassured them that the Moroccan authorities are sparing no effort to find a satisfactory solution to that problem taking into consideration the human dimension of that question.
