Morocco, Politics, 7/13/2000
Partial elections to renew one third of the chamber of advisors (upper chamber of the Moroccan parliament) will be held next September 15, a reliable source told MAP.
The indirect elections will fill 90 seats of the 270-member chamber.
On Tuesday, lots drawing decided who of the members would go out in keeping with the constitution provision stipulating the renewal every three years of one third of the chamber members.
The upper chamber comprises elected delegates of the six colleges of local communities, chambers of agriculture, handicraft, trade, industry and services and representatives of employees and sea-fishery chambers.
Speaker of the house and member of the 54 strong local community college Mohamed Jalal Essaid topped the outgoing group.
