Sweden Gen. chief of the UNDOF in the Golan

The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on Tuesday appointed the Swedish General Bu Franker as a commander for the UN forces stationed in the Golan since 1974 to observe the disengagement between Syria and Israel, known as UNDOF.
Annan said in his message to the UN security council to this effect that Franker who will succeed the Canadian General Cameroon Ross who was appointed in October 1998, will assume his post as from the first of August. UNDOF is composed of 1053 soldiers.
