AL refuses Israel David emblem to join the ICRC

The Arab League has refused the request made by Israel to include the " red David star" to the emblem of the International federation of the societies of the red cross and red crescent.

In statements he made on Tuesday the Arab league AL Secretary General Ismat Abdul Miguid questioned how the " David star " can be included in the emblem of the Red Cross and Red Cross societies which signify ( both the Crescent and the Cross) peace, while it signified war and destruction and is placed by Israel on its warplanes which strike Arab civilians

The AL chief added that this position was informed to the chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC during his meeting with him recently in Geneva. The AL chief added that Israel's request is totally in contradiction with Geneva Agreements for 1949 which only admits the signs of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent. He added that Israel was behind several wars and massacres which claimed the lives of thousands of innocent and unarmed Arab civilians and inflicted several disabled.

The AL chief stressed the need for keeping the two currently included marks internationally recognized in the emblem and worked out by the International movement of the Red Cross and Crescent, as two signs of protection rather a sign of war like that of the star of David.

The AL chief also called for an emergency and joint meeting for the representatives of the Arab governments and the representatives of the national societies of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross societies at the headquarters of the AL in August with the aim to discuss the question of the emblem of the International red cross and red crescent so as to take a united Arab stand towards Israel's continued attempts to include " David red star" within the emblem of the international federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent before the convening of the next international conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva in November 14.

A report by the AL to this effect said that both Israel and the US are making large political,continuous and financial pressure to add " David star" which is Israel's political and religious symbol to the internationally recognized emblems.
