Africa chooses Sudan to sit in UN Security Council

Sudan was picked by the African group at the United Nations to sit in the Security council for a two-year term starting next January 1st.
Despite American pressures, the 53 African countries have selected Sudan to succeed Namibia.
Sudan is facing since 1996 international sanctions, enforced following an attempt against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. The sanctions will be lifted in November.
