Barak refuses proposals calling for a new governmental coalition
Israel-Palestine, Politics, 7/11/2000

Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Barak has refused several proposals calling for forming a new governmental coalition to back him in the negotiations in Camp David with the Palestinian side.

The Israeli radio said that Barak met on Sunday evening with the ministers of " One Israel" of the labor party and refused proposals to form a governmental of a narrow base, before he heads for camp David.

The blocs of the Israeli parties of Shas, Meretz, al-Mifdal and Israel Baalia had withdrawn from the governmental coalition on the eve of Camp David negotiations due to be held today between the Israeli and Palestinian sides under the American auspices under the pretext that Barak is going to Camp David to give concessions in red lines in the issues of Jerusalem, the refugees, the borders and redeployment of the west bank.

Meantime, sources close to Barak described the decision of the Israeli foreign minister David Levy not to join Barak at Camp David negotiations as a sort of treason.
