Morocco's Boulami wins 3000M Steeplechase in Nice meeting

Moroccan athlete Brahim Boulami won on Saturday the 3000-m steeplechase race at the meeting of Nice (France) which is part of the IAAF grand prix.

He covered the distance in 8:03.30, achieving thus the best world performance of the year, and shattering the Nice meeting record (8:07.62) as well as the Moroccan record (8:03.57) which was detained by his countryman Ali Ezzine.

Ali Ezzine, winner of the bronze medal at the 7th IAAF world championships in athletics held in Seville in 1999, came in second.

At the Nice meeting, the young Moroccan Brahim Boulabah, ranked second in the 1000-m race, covering the distance in 2:34.25. The first place went to Cote D'Ivoire's Didier Assono with 2:33.20.

In the 1500 meters race, won by Kenyan William Chichir, Moroccan Adil el Kaouch ranked fifth with a timing of 3'35''17.

In the women's races, Asmae Laghzaoui ranked 7th in the 3000 m with a timing of 8:45.30 while Amina Ait Hammou held the 8th rank in the 1000 m with 2:42.91.
