Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 7/10/2000
The opposition Sudanese alliance ended its meetings yesterday in Cairo by taking a decision to fulfill Egypt's call for holding a preparatory meeting that comprises the government and the opposition assembly in coming month in Cairo.
Leadership sources in the alliance said that the alliance's leadership assigned head of the alliance Mohammed Ossman El-Merghani to implement convening the preparatory meeting with the Sudanese government under Egypt's auspices.
The opposition alliance delayed discussing Sudanese laws that restrict liberties that alliance had formally placed as conditions before any meeting the government can proceed. The opposition alliance asked the government to cancel the laws which harm public and political liberties.
The sources asked the government to take positive steps toward the coordination between the Egyptian - Libyan initiative and I.G.A.D initiative for solving the Sudanese crisis.
