A regional report stated that the increase in petroleum international prices and the economic liberalization helped in energizing the economy in the Arab gulf states. The Doha based Gulf Organization for Industrial Consultations said that the economic growth rate has increased to 2.21% in 1999 compared to 1.03% in the former year and that it is expected to increase to 3.8% this year.
