EU, keen on strengthening cooperation with Egypt

"The Current Chairman of the EU, will seek to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the European Union especially as regards the Egyptian national industry modernization program," French Ambassador Francois Dopffer told MENA.

"Since 1996, EU offered Egypt 750 million euro in the form of loans," he said, stressing France's keenness to maintain such a rate in the coming years.

The Chairman of the EU is also keen on continuing cooperation between the two sides especially regarding the Egyptian economic reform program.

In reply to a question on fear over an increase in unemployment rates in Egypt under the Egyptian-European partnership agreement, he said that the interaction between the Egyptian and European economies will provide many job opportunities.

"The partnership agreement will also increase the Egyptian exports to the EU," he added.

France was among countries that expanded their investments in Egypt, referring to the French investments in cement industry and power plants in Suez and Port Said in addition to the domain of communications," Dopffer said .

"A number of French businessmen recently decided to increase their investments in Egypt after studying the Egyptian market, and the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and France has remarkably increased this year," he added.

On the establishment of the French University in Egypt, he stressed the importance of this major project, referring to the importance of boosting academic, cultural and educational relations between Egypt and Europe especially France.
