Morocco's sea products exports worth $ 639 ml in 1999

Morocco's fishing output reached 727,000 tons in 1999, an increase of 4.7% compared to 1998. Out of this volume, 240,500 tons were exported for a value of $ 639 million, says Bank Al Maghrib's latest report.

The Moroccan central bank's report added that 85% of this output comes from coastal fishery (622,160 tons).

The volume of fresh sea products stood at 189,000 tons while 170,000 tons were used for canning.

Though exports of shellfish, mollusks, and shells fell by 18.6% compared to 1998, they were worth $ 354.6 million, followed by canned fish $ 195.3 million and fresh fish $ 89.4 million.

The figures were established on December 31, 1999, one month after the expiry of Moroccan-European fishery agreement.
