Algeria, Politics, 7/7/2000
At the time when the Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika defended the performance of the military establishment leaders and renewed his backing to them, he simultaneously asked them to give up dealing with politics and to return back to the tasks assigned to them according to the Algerian constitution.
Among these tasks are defending the country's security and its national unity.
Butaflika who on Monday evening attended a celebration held to promote several army officers at the premises of the ministry of defense praised the "straightforwardness " and their care during the years of the crisis to run the politics in the country without alienating any political group. He called on leaders of the military establishment to return back to the tasks assigned to them by the constitution.
