A new leadership for the national congress party in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 7/7/2000

The Sudanese ruling national congress has made a ministerial reshuffle according to which Vice President Ibrahim Ahmad Omar and his advisor for peace affairs Nafe Ali Nafe were exempted from their posts after they were appointed in key leading positions in the party.

The minister of the information Ghazi Salah Eddine stayed in his post but also have a new leading position in the party.

However, the call made by the government to convene a national forum for dialogue, to approve a political settlement and make amendment on the constitution reflected the deep disputes in opposition circles.

Meantime, the congress's Secretary General Ibrahim Ahmad Omar said that the Party's leading commission has appointed those who have the key posts in the new secretariat of the national congress. The party also chose three deputies for the secretary general.

Omar renewed his work program for the coming phase in continuing efforts made by the government to achieve reconciliation with the opposition, and establishing peace in the southern part of the country. He said that his party works for maintaining coordination, cooperation and unity with other political sides. Omar did not exclude from these sides the National Congress Party led by Hassan al-Turabi.
