Three jobless graduates get two months in jail
Morocco, Local, 7/6/2000
Three jobless graduates were sentenced Wednesday to two months in jail by a Rabat court for trouble-making charges.
The three graduates will also have to pay $ 50 in fines each. Some 19 other jobless graduates were sentenced to two months suspended terms and the same fines for the same charges.
The 22 graduates were arrested last June 18 following clashes between the police and demonstrating diploma holders, claiming their rights to employment.
Other charges included adherence to non-authorized association.
Relatedly, a group of jobless diploma holders announced on Wednesday the suspension of a sit-in they were staging at the headquarters of a trade union in downtown Rabat.
The decision was taken following a meeting between employment minister, Khalid Alioua, and representatives of the protestors.
The graduates got the government's assurance to endeavor to settle their problem the soonest.
