Palestine-Israel, Politics, 7/6/2000
The Palestinian intellectual Azmi Beshara has underestimated the Israeli threats concerning the decision to be taken by the Palestinians to announce their independent state next September.

He explained that the decision provides for declaring the Palestinian state next September has created a crisis in Israel as a result of its continued attempt to obstruct the negotiations between the two sides to prevent reaching any settlement concerning the Palestinian state, causes pertaining to Jerusalem, the refugees and the detainees and redeployment in the west bank and other areas.
Following the decision taken by the Palestinian Central Council on Monday in announcing the establishment of the Palestinian state on September 13, the Israeli government launched its threats against the consequences of declaring this State unilaterally. The Israeli government said that this state will be a mere " ink on paper" if Israel does not recognize it.
