Egypt's exports up by 12% in 9 months
Egypt, Economics, 7/4/2000

"Egypt's exports of non-oil products have increased by 12 percent during the past nine months compared to last year," Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Youssef Boutros Ghali, announced following an inspection tour of the goods village at Cairo International Airport.

From now on, Egyptian importers will have to deal with only one authority in order to finalize their export documents. "The Ministry has gathered all monitoring and security authorities under one umbrella," said Ghali.

Ghali promised to resolve the grievances of workers at the Goods Village to help them offer the best service to the public.

He also inspected a storage area for fruit and vegetables and asserted the necessity of improving its infrastructure so it could keep foodstuff fresh for as long as two months.

"Prime Minister Atef Ebeid has ordered the formation of a working group to come up with the best way to upgrade the storage area," Ghali said.
