Morocco, Economics, 7/4/2000
The Hewlett foundation will donate $300,000 to Moroccan "population and development partners" to support south-south initiatives in the field of reproductive health especially in matters of research, documentation and training.
The donation will allow to document south-south cooperation programs and the challenges faced in this regard and make available all data and information with the aim of encouraging developing countries to share their experiences, said Hewlett executive director of south-south partnership, Mussa Balla Silla.
The partnership for population and development, an intergovernmental alliance, seeks to speed up transfer of know-how, expertise and skills in the field of population and development through south-south cooperation.
The alliance gathers about 16 countries namely Morocco, Bangladesh, Colombia, China, Egypt, Gambia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mali, Mexico, Pakistan, Tunisia, Thailand, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
At the international conference on population and development held in September 1994 in Cairo, participants agreed to adopt an action plan placing the reproductive health on top of their development policy agenda.
