Egypt and Israel try to resolve Gaza air flight problem
Egypt-Israel, Economics, 7/3/2000

Egyptian sources stated that Egypt and Israel set a period of time to reach a solution for the dispute on an air passage that threatens ending air trips between Cairo and Gaza.

They clarified that in order to reach a settlement, the permission period has been extended till the end of July to allow flights from and to Gaza airport thru a passage 10 miles (19 kilometers) north Arish City in Sinai.

Cairo demands that planes heading to Gaza must pass thru an air passage area that is 48.3 kilometers north Arish city in Sinai which Israel refuses and it demands that the flight area be 10 miles north this city (19 kilometers).

The sources also said that the Egyptian negotiators will contact their Israeli counterparts to set a date for new talks to settle the problem.
