Mubarak, Abdullah voice backing to Bashar al-Assad
Egypt-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 7/3/2000

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz has asserted their complete backing to Lt. Gen. Bashar al-Assad and to Syria's unwavering policy which is based on serving Arab interests and strengthening joint Arab work. In their meeting held in Sharm esh Sheikh on Saturday, the two sides stressed the need of Israel's total withdrawal from the Golan up to June 4, 1967 border line so as to reach a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

Mubarak and Abdullah held the Israeli government responsible for halting the peace process on all tracks as a result of its negative stances which refuse to implement international legitimacy resolution and the land for peace formula.

The two sides also demanded an effective Arab stand so as to restore all Arab rights and occupied lands. They also called for accelerating strides for establishing the common Arab market as a nucleus for an Arab economic bloc at the age of international blocs.
