Lt. Gen. Bashar confers with Iraqi FM, Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation

Lt. Gen. Bashar al-Assad, the commander general of the army and armed forces in Syria on Saturday in Damascus received Iraqi Foreign Minister Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf and members of the accompanying delegation.

The meeting was attended by the Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara. Al-Sahaf offered condolences on the demise of the late President Hafez al-Assad.

Talks dealt with conditions on the Arab arena and the region and bilateral relations.

Later in the day, Lt. Gen. Bashar al-Assad received the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation led by the chairman of the foreign relations committee at the parliament Muhammad Jasem al-Saqr.

After the delegation offered condolences on the demise of the late president, talks dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and current developments in the region.

Meantime, the speaker of the Syrian Parliament Abdul Qader Qaddoura discussed with the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation issues of mutual concern and parliamentary relations between the two states and means of strengthening them for serving parliamentary activities between the two states.

Earlier in the day the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation arrived in Damascus, led by Muhammad Jasem al-Saqer.

In an arrival statement, to SANA the visiting Kuwaiti official said "we are visiting Syria to offer condolences on the demise of the late President Hafez al-Assad." He added that the visit also "aims to voice solidarity with Syria and her national stances while standing alone in confrontation of the Zionist project in the region against all kinds of separate deals."

He continued: " we have arrived to Syria to reiterate Kuwait's leadership, people and government solidarity with Syria until the ultimate end in her struggle to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that restores back full right to the Arab nation."

Meantime, the Foreign Minister al-Shara discussed with the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation bilateral relations and means of developing them.
