Sudanese flexibility with US in order to have sanctions removed
Sudan-Mali-USA, Politics, 7/3/2000

Sudan Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has announced that his country has showed great flexibility towards discussions on lifting the sanctions imposed on Sudan at the UN security council until November.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Sudanese paper al-Sahafi al-Dawli the Sudanese minister added that his country is currently seeking to convince the US to join all countries of the world so that the sanctions imposed on Sudan will be lifted unanimously.

Meantime, the Sudanese State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ali Abdul Rahman al-Numeiri said that there are efforts which are currently exerted to remove the obstacles before reopening the Sudanese embassy in Washington after local staff at the US embassy in al-Khartoum are permitted to resume their works.

Al-Neumeiri said that dialogue with the US continues to improve relations.

On June 23 the UN Security Council discussed the draft bill proposed by Mali to lift the sanctions imposed on Sudan since 1996 and a vote on such a decision is presumed to be made this month. The US is the only side which is still hesitant to lift the sanctions.
