Morocco picked as member of Geneva forum 2000 steering committee

Morocco will be sitting in the Geneva forum 2000 steering committee, together with Canada, Denmark and Switzerland, to follow up recommendations of the international conference held to assess implementations of the Copenhagen social summit decisions.
Other members to the committee are UN assistant-under secretary general for economic and social affairs, UN coordinator for the Copenhagen summit, and other non-governmental organizations.
The Geneva forum 2000 was held this June 26-30 in parallel to the 24th extraordinary session of the UN general assembly. Attended by representatives of governments and Ngos, the conference was meant to assess how governments lived up to social commitments made during the Copenhagen summit.
The newly-created steering committee will be supporting political actions and the mobilization of social and economic actors in social development fields.
The committee will incept an annual international encounter starting in summer 2001.
