OIC ministerial conference winds up in kuala Lumpur

The 27th ministerial conference of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) wound up on Friday its work with the adoption of a series of recommendations on Islamic issues and the election of Moroccan, Abdelouahed Belkziz as its secretary general.
The final statement praised eminent efforts by Al-Quds committee, under the chairmanship of the late King Hassan II, and the continuation of its action under king Mohammed VI.
OIC foreign ministers also adopted a specific issue on Al-Quds (Jerusalem) hailing the late king's efforts to set up the "Bayt Al-Mal Al-Quds" fund, identify its field of action in protecting holy city and its Palestinian inhabitants, preserving its Arab-Islamic identity and giving it premises and lavish funds.
The conference also expressed thanks to the late king's successor, King Mohammed VI, for his support to the agency activities and financial backing to enable it fulfill its mission.
Another resolution was adopted on the critical economic situation in Africa, hailing Morocco's decision to write off the debts of African least-developed countries and inviting other member countries to take similar initiatives.
On Thursday, the Jeddah-based unanimously elected Morocco's candidate, Abdelouahed Belqziz, as its secretary general to replace another Moroccan, Azeddine Laraki.
Belkziz, 60, a former information and foreign minister, ambassador and rector of the Kenitra university, will be taking over his job at the head of the 56-member country in Jeddah starting next January.
The Moroccan delegation to the 27th OIC foreign ministers council was led by secretary of state for foreign affairs, Taieb Fassi Fihri.
