Yemen launchs campaign to fight kidnappings of foreigners
Yemen, Politics, 7/1/2000

The Yemeni security forces arrested tens of the suspects involved in kidnapping the foreigners in Yemen.

Informed sources said yesterday that this campaign aims at stopping such repeated operations, referring that the list of the suspects who are wanted by the authorities comprises 50 members from Maereb governorate in east Sanaa. Maereb governorate witnessed several of the kidnapping operations.

Yemeni interior minister Hussein Mohammed Arab said that "the campaign targets other crimes than kidnapping among which is theft."

Yemen has pledged many times to put and end to the kidnapping operations by the tribes' men who demand extending the governmental services to the poor areas in which they live.
