Mubarak-Saudi Crown Prince Summit, Sharm el Sheikh

Egyptian-Saudi Summit talks open in Sharm el Sheikh today between President Hosni Muharak and Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz the Saudi Crown Prince who arrived in Sharm el Sheikh yesterday on a few days visit.

Talks will tackle Arab developments, the peace march, and bolstering Egyptian -Saudi cooperation.

The two leaders will exchange views on Arab developments, regional variables and developments of the peace process.

The meeting will reiterate Arab support for the Palestinians and the need for the Israelis to abide by the agreements which have been signed.

It will also restate Arab support for Syria and its new leadership after the passing away of Syrian President Hafez al Assad and nomination of Lt. General Bashar al Assad for the Syrian presidency.

Safwat al Sherif said the visit of Prince Abdullah comes in the context of consultations and exchange of views between the leaderships of the sisterly countries on Arab and regional developments.

He said the two leaders would discuss issue of common interest and would tackle ways of promoting the two countries interests.

Prince Abdullah arrived at 21.00 last night in Sharm el Sheikh where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Atef Ebeid , Minister Safwat al Sherif, Minister Mamdouh el Beltagui, Zakaria Azmi and the Governor of Southern Sinai.

The local Saudi press highlighted Crown Prince Abdullah and President Hosni Mubarak's meeting in Sharm el Sheikh Thursday as a significant get-together, given the weight of the two countries.

"Affirming Egypt and Saudi Arabia's support to Syria and its new leadership, will figure high on their talks," the papers said.

"The Saudi-Egyptian consultations and coordination come within the two countries' constant defense of Arab and Islamic legal rights and interests," the papers said.

Okaz, Saudi Newspaper quoted Safwat El Sherif as saying that the meeting was part of the interest of the leaders in discussing issues of Arab concern and Middle East peace developments.

Al Riyadh, Saudi Newspaper expected the Mubarak-Abdullah meeting to stress the full Arab support to the Palestinian stance.

In an extensive report from Cairo, it said that the meeting will renew the full Arab support to Syria and its new leadership.
