Regional, Politics, 6/29/2000
Foreign Ministers of Islamic countries meeting here have confirmed that the establishment of the independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Ashareef as its capital is the genuine and basic guarantee to set up a lasting peace in West Asia.
Another important element to achieve peace is the implementation of all international resolutions regarding the Palestinian cause.
The statement was made Wednesday to reporters on the fringes of the 27th session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers (June 27-30) by head of the Palestine Liberation Organisation's political department, Farouk Kadoumi.
"The Islamic countries re-confirm that Al-Quds Ashareef is the political and historical capital of the Palestinian people and the Palestinians," he said.
According to Kadoumi, the ministers appealed to all countries of the world including sponsors of the West Asian peace process and the United Nations to work on this basis in their endeavor to realize a just and lasting peace in the region.
The four-day ICFM is attended by about 1,000 delegates.
