Iraq and the UN sanctions
Iraq-Italy, Politics, 6/29/2000

Iraq's vice President Tareq Aziz announced on Wednesday that his country's government does not accept the principle of permanent sanctions on Iraq and that it refuses the UN monitoring of its weapons.

Aziz told the Italian paper Correri Della Serra " we are no more ready to accept the UN monitoring on our military arsenal," noting in this effect that Iraq had approved the international borders of Kuwait and recognized it.

However, these statements by the Iraqi vice president fall in the course of the visit made on Tuesday by a delegation of Italian parliamentarians, chaired by the democratic senator Gedo Foloni and dedicated to discuss the possibility of cooperation between the two countries.
