First Lady Mubarak suggests initiative to new development model
Egypt, Culture, 6/28/2000
Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak today proposed a new mechanism to turn the small-scale project sector into an engine to a new development model.
The traditional development philosophy zeroed in on the public sector, but the new studies unveiled the steady growth of the private sector`s percentage in employment and economic activities during the past two decades, She said.
Mrs. Mubarak leads the Egyptian delegation to the UN General Assembly`s special session on economic and social development at the UN Geneva-seat Palais Des Nations.
She said that the private and self-employment sectors are the nearest to the poor classes of the society, whose improvement of conditions is the main goal for social development.
Mrs.Mubarak called for generalizing the successful plans used to support the small-scale projects.
The Egyptian first lady urged merging such initiative with others, as that of establishing an international fund for women which she has launched.
Mrs. Mubarak said those initiatives pave the way towards achieving the Copenhagen summit obligations.
North-South full partnership is a must to realize an effective development model, She believed, assuring that it is possible and necessary for the sake of the coming generations in a bound world.
The first lady was addressing the delegations of 188 member-states at the Palais Des Nations today.
