Israeli measures to settle Lahd militias in Israel
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 6/28/2000
The Israeli authorities on Tuesday distributed identity cards on members of what used to be called members of the Lahd hireling militias in South Lebanon who fled to Israel. This measure falls in the course of the campaign to contain and settle those militia members in Israel.
The chairman of the civil status department in Israel Heirts Geits told the Israeli radio on Tuesday that these cards enable their bearers to reside legally in Israel and to work in it as well as to obtain social and health insurance.
Geits explained that these cards are to be distributed on 5200 persons out of 5900 who are living in Israel from South Lebanon noting that some 700 persons among those Lahd militia are planning to head for European states.
