Sudan resumes talks with US
Sudan, Politics, 6/26/2000
To avoid a U.S veto at the U.N, the Sudanese government is resuming discussions with Washington.
The Sudanese government assured its desire to do so in order to avoid a U.S Veto that would prevent ending the sanctions imposed on Sudan.
The UN Security Council discussed last Friday the draft resolution for lifting the economic and diplomatic sanctions off Sudan. The sanction were placed in year 1996 after the failed assassination attempt took place against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Sudan was accused of harboring the terrorists.
A diplomat said the vote on lifting the sanctions will take place next month, and Washington is still hesitant in this regard.
