Lebanon-Jordan, Politics, 6/26/2000

Chairman of the Jordanian trade union who was leading delegation to south Lebanon said four members of the delegation on Saturday came under the fires of Israeli soldiers at Fatemah crossing in South Lebanon. Taher al-Shakhshir said that this incident has accelerated our persistence to withstand normalization with Israel which does not take into account any humanitarian values.

In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas issued on Sunday, the Jordanian official added " the Zionist entity constitutes a permanent threat to the future of the Arab nation and what happened proved the fragile confidence placed by Israel in peace."

He remarked that the Israeli soldiers were " hit by Hysteria when they saw representatives for the Jordanian people confronting them via the Lebanese territories."

On Sunday morning three of the wounded persons of the Jordanian trade unions delegation who came under Israeli forces fires during their visit to congratulate their Lebanese brothers on liberating South Lebanon from the Israeli occupation.

One of the wounded Eng. Ali Abu al-Sukkar, who is the secretary of the Jordanian engineer, also the chairman of the trade unions anti- normalization committee with Israel said that " this ugly crime proves the aggressive and brutal nature of Israel."

He explained in statements to pressmen upon his return back to Amman together with the two wounded engineers Ghassan Abu al-Haj and Rashed al-Ramahi, that the Israeli soldiers started to open fire on engineer Abu al-Haj when he knelt off the borders thanking God for liberating South Lebanon and then they opened fire on him ( Abu al-Sukkar) and he was wounded in his soldier.

As a result of the Israeli soldiers fire al-Ramahi and two Lebanese accompanying his were wounded.

Meantime, Lebanon's President Emil Lahud denounced the attack adding that this assault is a confirmation to correctness of Lebanese anxiety toward Israel's behavior after her commitment of withdrawal from the Lebanese area in south Lebanon. He asked the U.N to investigate this assault which he said shows the disregard of the Israeli enemy to all the international laws.
