Egypt fulfilled Copenhagen Declaration obligations

"Egypt has fulfilled all its commitments under the Copenhagen Declaration issued by a Social Development Summit held in the Danish Capital in 1995 and signed by Egypt," said Insurance and Social Affairs Minister Amina El Gendi.
In exclusive remarks to Middle East News Adency MENA, El Gendi added that Egypt had met all the Declaration requirements for social development on national, regional and international levels.
"Egypt will present a relevant detailed report to the UN General Assembly's Special Session, due to commence on Monday a social development in the era of globalization," she added.
"Egypt has paid due attention to poverty and unemployment control programs and creating permanent jobs, taking into consideration political, economic and social policies," Minister Amina El-Gendi noted.
"Egypt has also enhanced the social integration of individuals based on defending and respecting human rights," El-Gendi said .
She also said Egypt would acquaint the delegations of 188 countries, that would participate in the General Assembly's Special Session, a social security scheme it had set into motion.
"The main aim of the scheme is to develop families' ability to support themselves financially," El-Gendi elaborated.
"During the past five years, Egypt issued a number of laws that have had positive impacts on social development," she said.
The Minister cited the child law, another on easing litigation procedures for family affairs, and the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) law.
On the NGOs law, the Minister said even though Constitutional Court insisted on referring the law to the Shura Council (Egypt's Upper House), "the spirit of the law still give flexibility to social work."
