Mauritania resumes importing the Algerian gas
Mauritania-Algeria, Economics, 6/24/2000

Informed sources in the Mauritanian ministry of energy said "Mauritanian decided to resume importing gas from Algeria," adding that "Mohammed Yehia Walad Sidi El-Mokhtar manager of the Mauritanian company for gas will sign next week in Algeria a new agreement to resume import of gas from Algeria after few months of boycott."

Mauritania was importing its gas needs through the international market during last months which led to several problems among which are serious losses to distributors due to refusal of the Mauritanian gas company to accept bad bottles that used to be replaced with good ones when dealing with Algeria.

It is worthy to mention that Mauritania consumes nearly 30,000 tons of gas monthly and was importing its needs from Algeria according to an agreement between the two states since the seventies. This agreement stopped since the crisis between the two states because of Mauritania's establishing full diplomatic relations with Israel in October 1999.
