La Maison Du Maroc in Paris hosts solidarity days with Iraqi people
Iraq-Morocco, Politics, 6/23/2000
Solidarity days with the Iraqi people, facing since 1990 of a UN embargo, started on Wednesday at La Maison Du Maroc in Paris with a photo exhibition on Iraq and the screening of two films on the humanitarian situation in the country.
The opening ceremony of the event was marked by the reading out of a message by French former health minister Leon Schwazenberg. In his message, the former French official deplored the embargo policy, which takes "the whole Iraqi people as hostage" and described the unbearable sufferings of ill Iraqis in hospitals that lack medicine, antibiotics and painkilling drugs.
The event also features lectures and debates.
Several French associations and Ngos, opposing the embargo against Iraq, announced here on Thursday a project to organize a Paris-Baghdad flight next September 20.
The resumption of flights towards Iraq is a vital necessity to ship medical products destined to children, said at a news conference the founder-chairman of the ngo "Enfants du Monde" (Children of the world), father Yves Buannic.
Outstanding personalities from the world of culture, politics and economy will participate in the operation dubbed "A plane for Iraq."
