Moroccans back women's participation in politics, survey shows

Some 59.5% of persons polled in a survey conducted by the research consultancy "Inter strategic" supports women's participation in politics and their representation in elected bodies.
The survey, conducted for the democratic association of women in Morocco and whose results were published Thursday, reveals that women have more responsibility for the family than men. Some 97.6% of the persons polled believe that women's mission is to bring up children and to look after the family, while 84.6% see that men should help women in housework.
The survey, which covered a sample of 1.000 persons representing rural and urban population, further reveals that men describe the work of women as "a necessary evil" while one third of those polled are for women's work provided that females spend all their wages on household needs.
Whether in Urban or rural areas, the polled persons notice that authoritarianism dominates relationship between men and women. 98% insist on women's obedience to their husbands, while 36.8% are against that, the survey added.
