Sudan opposition group rejects general pardon
Sudan, Politics, 6/22/2000
Mansour Khaled, the advisor to the leader of the opposition group Sudan People's Liberation Army, expressed the rejection of his organization to the general pardon issued yesterday by Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir to all opposition members.
In press declarations to the Egyptian al-Ahram daily published today, Khaled said "this is the position of the movement and its chief (John) Garang since the first day of El-Bashir's reign and it is now concerned with going forward with a full political solution which will not achieved through these demonstrations (i.e. general pardon), but through the government's response to the demands of the opposition alliance in order to prepare the discussion atmosphere."
Meantime, the Sudanese government welcomed the public movement's government to its consent on resuming the peace negotiations through the I.G.A.G initiative.
