Basouni presents report to Moussa on internal affairs in Israel
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 6/22/2000
Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa met with Egypt's ambassador to Israel Mohammed Basouni. Basouni said following the meeting that he presented a detailed report to the Moussa concerning the internal situation in Israel and its effect on the peace process.
He added he also reviewed the Palestinian peace talks and the visit of U.S Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to the area next week to discuss the possibility convening a three-way (US -Palestinian - Israeli) summit if a solution is found for the large gap between the Palestinian and the Israeli positions.
Albright's visit will be preceded by today's visit of U.S special envoy Dennis Ross to the region.
Basouni stated that there are three options now for the Israeli government following the resignation of 4 ministers from Shas party, the first is that the resignation will be reversed today (before the resignations take effect) and the ruling coalition will continue as it is, and the second option is that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak will form a government based on 62 members in the Knesset among whom are 10 Arab members in the Knesset to support the government from the outside or heading to new elections after 60 days.
