Libya-Austria, Politics, 6/22/2000
The Libyan News Agency has reported the leader of the Austrian Freedom Party in Austria Yorg Haider arrived on Wednesday in Tripoli in an official visit.
The Libyan official news agency quoted Haider as saying " we will try to see the touristic sites and the great artificial river project. We have experts in the field of manufacturing water pipes and we will discuss the possibility of cooperating in this great project."
He added that a large delegation representing businessmen in the areas of tourism, and investments and experts in the area of oil will accompany Hayder. No news were reported on how long Haider will stay in Libya and whether he will be meeting with the Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi.
In an interview with the Austrian weekly " news" issued in the mid of June al-Qaddafi defended Hayder and said that the Europeans have no right to interfere in the political life of Austria.
Haider who has good relations with al-Qaddafi's son Seif al-Islam ( 28) in May held a secret visit to Libya and met with al-Qaddafi before he announced that the province of Karenthi which he governs, sells the Libyan oil for a lower price.
