Annan promised to deal with Israeli violations in South Lebanon
Lebanon, Politics, 6/22/2000

Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri on Wednesday in Beirut asserted that the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan promised following the meetings he held in Beirut to seriously deal with the elimination of all Israeli violations on the border.

The Speaker of the Lebanese parliament told several parliament members on Wednesday that there are three places in which Israel has annexed larger areas and other 13 violations of smaller areas. He explained that these place are between the 'Blue line " and the international borders.

Berri added that the official Lebanese position is that the Lebanese state will not move the joint security force that the Lebanese cabinet decided to send to South Lebanon. He also said that Lebanon will not also cover the redeployment of the UNIFIL in these areas unless all violations are dealt with.

To this effect, Lebanese and UN teams on Wednesday continued the verification process of the removal of Israeli violations on Lebanese borders, the official spokesman of UNIFIL announced on Wednesday.

The two teams headed for the outskirts of Kafer Shoya town to verify the Israeli violations, as the local people of the town confirmed that the Israelis occupied an area of six square Km of the town.

They added that Israeli occupation army set up in 1995 two positions on hills overlooking Kafer Shoya. The verification team on Tuesday showed that Israel had cut out parts of Alma al-Shaab town.
