All evidence rule out pilot suicide
Egypt, Politics, 6/21/2000

All evidence rule out that copilot Gamil Al-Batouti has committed a suicide or deliberately plunged the plane into the Atlantic Ocean, said EgyptAir Chief Mohamed Fahim Rayan.

"Switching off the autopilot is not in any way considered an evidence of suicide as this fall within procedures to control the plane, "said Chief of the National Carrier".

He pointed out that the copilot was doing his best to rescue the plane from "an outside thing" the plane encountered out of the blue when it was passing over the ocean and its altitude became stable. All recordings indicated that both the pilot and his copilot were totally surprised of what happened to the plane.

On the other hand, Walid Murad, Head of the Egyptian Pilot League, called on the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to officially announce Batouti's innocence from this suicide theory.

Murad also urged the US authorities to salvage and examine the Egypt Air plane tail group which will unravel the ill-fated EgyptAir fall mystery.
