King Mohammed calls Morocco, USA to move towards strategic partnership
Morocco, Politics, 6/21/2000

Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Tuesday called on Morocco and the USA to move towards a "quality strategic partnership."

"We need to aspire to greater heights so as to move our cooperation towards a quality strategic partnership focusing on four global and inter-dependent objectives: to ensure security, to strengthen democracy to generate prosperity and to edify peace," King Mohammed VI said at an exchange of addresses during a dinner banquet hosted in his honor at the White House by President Bill Clinton.

The king voiced pride over Morocco's centuries-old tradition, political stability and long-standing tradition of moderation and openness. "The Kingdom of Morocco offers exemplary evidence that it can be (`) a state of law, a multi-party democracy open to government alternation, a competitive liberal economy fostering the private initiative and direct investments," the sovereign said, highlighting Morocco's character as a "land of tolerance where all citizens coexist in dignity and in racial and religious harmony."

King Mohammed VI also recalled Morocco's long tradition of a nation ever endeavoring for the consolidation of World peace.

"During the reign of my late father, His Majesty King Hassan II, the Kingdom of Morocco (`) made its contribution (`) towards peace and security at various theatres of action and in different part of the world," he said.
