Yossi Katz: Barak will not hold early elections
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 6/21/2000
Yossi Katz, member of the Israeli Knesset, negated the possibility that the current Israeli government will hold early elections to confront the current crisis in Israel.
He said following his meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa that Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Barak is doing his best to keep his alliance with Shas and Meretz parties to keep the current ruling coalition.
He added that Barak still has some cards which he has not yet revealed and he has also alternatives, adding that Barak needs 3 or 4 months to achieve complete arrangements with the Palestinians after which Israel may hold new elections.
He added that his talks with Moussa also tackled the current status in Middle East in general concerning the peace process and future of the relations among Israel and the Arab states.
