Israel signed agreement with Turkey to buy potable water
Israel-Turkey, Economics, 6/20/2000
Israeli foreign minister David Levy on Monday announced that his country signed an agreement with Turkey to import drinking water.
In a statement he released on Monday in occupied Jerusalem Levy said "we have reached an agreement with the Turkish authorities during my recent visit there and it is ratified today ( Monday). I do commend this agreement."
Earlier, the Israeli papers said the agreement states that Israel will import 50 million cubic meters of waters from Turkey as from the Summer of 2001 and that the amounts of waters will be transported by containers of a capacity of 250,000 tons to Askalan port, southern Tel Aviv, from where it will be pumped into the water network.
