Egyptian assistant FM: No merger between I.G.A.D and the Egyptian - Libyan initiative to solve the Sudanese crisis
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 6/19/2000

Egyptian assistant foreign minister for African affairs ambassador Ibrahim Ali Hassan excluded the idea of merging the two initiative that attempt to solve Sudan's internal crisis, the Egyptian - Libyan initiative and I.G.A.D initiative.

Ibrahim Ali Hassan left Cairo yesterday heading to Oslo to participate in meetings of Sudan's committee affiliated to I.G.A.D country partners which begin its works today. He emphasized that what was said about this merger is incorrect especially that the Egyptian - Libyan initiative for finding a comprehensive solution for the Sudanese problem receives the support of the Sudanese parties.

At the same time, Egypt's ambassador in Khartoum, Mohammed Assume Ibrahim, expected that the Libyan - Egyptian initiative would have an effective role in Oslo's meetings for the I.G.A.D partners.

The Egyptian ambassador said in declarations yesterday in Khartoum that the hope of solving the Sudanese issue becomes related to the Egyptian - Libyan initiative especially after the failure of Nairobi's last tour, in addition to the failure of the I.G.A.D countries group which had spent 6 years on the I.G.A.D initiative without producing anything new.
