Iranian Shura council demands press freedom
Iran, Politics, 6/19/2000

The Iranian Shura council which is dominated by reformists urged on revising the press law as quick as possible.

151 members out of 290 of the council's members asked the judicial authorities to allow the newspapers issuance against which closure procedures were issued in the former parliament which was dominated by the conservatives.

This step comes to confront the conservative scheme to topple the independent liberal newspapers inside the county.

This is considered a new attempt because the reformists want to reform the political affairs and the conservatives do not want the political reform and they only focus on the economic issues.
